17 August in cricket

17 August

Dates follow UTC, the same clock as our daily posts.

On this day in 2023, Wanindu Hasaranga produced a spell for the ages in the LPL, tearing through Jaffna Kings with astonishing figures of six wickets for just nine runs for B-Love Kandy. It remains one of the most devastating T20 bowling displays imaginable, a masterclass in leg-spin that left the opposition in tatters.

The bat had its say too. In 2025, Colin Munro brought the fireworks for Trinbago Knight Riders, blazing 120 off just 57 balls against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the CPL. Usman Tariq chipped in with four wickets in the same competition.

Back in 2018, Kieron Pollard smashed a 54-ball 104 for St Lucia Stars against Barbados Royals, with Andre Fletcher adding a supporting 80 from 52 deliveries.

Coverage & definitionsCricsheet ball-by-ball · matches played on this date (UTC) · data through 24 October 2026Show ▾

Source. Ball-by-ball data from Cricsheet. New matches are loaded from Cricsheet twice a day (10:00 and 22:00 UTC), typically a day or two after a match is published there.

Internationals. T20 internationals are included only when both teams are ICC full members. Fixtures against Associate nations (e.g. Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal, USA) are not in the dataset, so international totals for players who faced them are lower than their full career figures. Afghanistan men's internationals are absent for a different reason: Cricsheet has withheld every match involving the Afghanistan men's team since 14 November 2024, so none of them can be loaded. Every full member's totals are lower by the matches they played against Afghanistan, and Afghanistan men's players do not appear at all. Afghanistan women's matches are unaffected.

Leagues. Leagues: IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, SA20, MLC, ILT20, BPL, LPL, WBBL, WPL — full history of each. Domestic T20 competitions outside this list (e.g. the Blast, SMAT, Super Smash) are not included.

Exclusions. Super overs are excluded from every total. A match abandoned without a ball bowled has no ball-by-ball file and is not in the dataset, even where a toss took place and official records credit the named players with an appearance. M can therefore sit one or two below a player's official career figure. Match appearances (M) come from the playing XI in each match file, so a match where a player neither batted nor bowled still counts as an appearance. Where M is missing, that player's appearances have not been loaded yet.

"Best" innings and spells are ranked by runs and by wickets then runs conceded; a quiet date here is only quiet within this dataset.
