About CricfanAI
A cricket statistics site built on public ball-by-ball data. This page says exactly what is in the dataset, what is not, and how the numbers on every other page are defined.
Source
Every figure is computed from ball-by-ball match files published by Cricsheet. Nothing is typed in by hand and no totals are copied from other sites. New matches are loaded from Cricsheet twice a day (10:00 and 22:00 UTC), typically a day or two after a match is published there. The most recent match currently in the dataset was played on 13 October 2026.
Coverage
T20 internationals. T20 internationals are included only when both teams are ICC full members. Fixtures against Associate nations (e.g. Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal, USA) are not in the dataset, so international totals for players who faced them are lower than their full career figures. The full members are Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Zimbabwe. Men's and women's internationals are both included and are always kept separate.
Leagues. IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, SA20, MLC, ILT20, BPL, LPL, WBBL, WPL, each from its first season. Domestic T20 competitions outside this list (e.g. the Blast, SMAT, Super Smash) are not included.
Not covered. Tests, one-day internationals and List A cricket. Super overs are excluded from every total. The dataset has no playing-XI record, so match appearances can't be counted. A match where a player neither batted nor bowled is not reflected anywhere in their figures.
Because of the above, a player's totals here are their totals in these competitions, not a full career record. Player pages link to ESPNcricinfo for the complete career where we have the mapping.
Definitions
- Inns (batting) — innings in which the player came to the crease, including as non-striker without facing a ball. In T20 a player bats at most once per match, so this is also the number of matches they batted in.
- Inns (bowling) — innings in which the player bowled at least one delivery. Matches where they did not bowl are not counted.
- Batting average — runs divided by dismissals. Bowling average — runs conceded divided by wickets. Not-out innings add runs but no dismissal.
- Batting strike rate — runs per 100 balls faced (wides excluded). Bowling strike rate — balls per wicket.
- Economy — runs conceded per six legal balls bowled.
- Dot ball — a legal delivery (no wide or no-ball) from which no runs were scored, including byes and leg-byes.
- Runs chased — the second-innings total scored by the side that won by wickets. In a rain-affected match this is the revised target reached, not the first-innings score.
- Direct matchup — every ball the batter faced from the bowler across all competitions in the dataset; dismissals count only those credited to the bowler (not run-outs).
How Ask works
Ask passes your question to a language model that writes read-only SQL against this dataset, runs it, and explains the rows that come back. The queries and the supporting rows are shown with every answer. The model can misread a question or pick a looser filter than you meant, so treat the table as the source of truth and the prose as a summary of it.
Corrections
If a figure looks wrong, the quickest check is the coverage box on that page: most apparent errors are coverage (a missing competition or Associate fixture) rather than calculation. Genuine calculation errors are fixed centrally in the SQL views that every page reads from, so a fix lands everywhere at once.
