16 October in cricket

16 October

Dates follow UTC, the same clock as our daily posts.

On this day in 2020, Quinton de Kock lit up the IPL with a commanding 78 off 44 balls for Mumbai Indians against Kolkata Knight Riders. His knock anchored the contest, overshadowing an unlikely counter from KKR's Pat Cummins, who struck 53 from 36 balls in a rare batting cameo for the pacer.

The date has also been a happy hunting ground in the WBBL. In 2022, Sophie Molineux produced the standout bowling effort, claiming 4 for 23 for Melbourne Renegades against Adelaide Strikers. Sophie Devine top-scored among the women with 44 off 42 for Perth Scorchers, while Alyssa Healy chipped in with 43 from 32 for Sydney Sixers.

A year earlier, Tahlia McGrath delivered an all-round show for Adelaide, making 42 and taking 3 for 17 against Sydney Thunder.
