23 August in cricket
23 August
Dates follow UTC, the same clock as our daily posts.
On This Day, in 2017, Chris Gayle turned back the clock with a blistering 93 off just 47 balls for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots against the Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL, a reminder of the Universe Boss at his destructive best.
The date has produced plenty of memorable knocks. In 2024, Tristan Stubbs struck 76 off 42 for South Africa against West Indies in a T20I, while back in 2013 Ahmed Shehzad made 70 off 50 for Pakistan against Zimbabwe.
With the ball, the 2023 CPL clash between Jamaica Tallawahs and the Patriots stood out, as Salman Irshad claimed 4 for 27 and Mohammad Amir backed him up with 3 for 20 in a fine bowling effort.

Coverage & definitionsCricsheet ball-by-ball · matches played on this date (UTC) · data through 24 October 2026Show ▾
Source. Ball-by-ball data from Cricsheet. New matches are loaded from Cricsheet twice a day (10:00 and 22:00 UTC), typically a day or two after a match is published there.
Internationals. T20 internationals are included only when both teams are ICC full members. Fixtures against Associate nations (e.g. Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal, USA) are not in the dataset, so international totals for players who faced them are lower than their full career figures. Afghanistan men's internationals are absent for a different reason: Cricsheet has withheld every match involving the Afghanistan men's team since 14 November 2024, so none of them can be loaded. Every full member's totals are lower by the matches they played against Afghanistan, and Afghanistan men's players do not appear at all. Afghanistan women's matches are unaffected.
Leagues. Leagues: IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, SA20, MLC, ILT20, BPL, LPL, WBBL, WPL — full history of each. Domestic T20 competitions outside this list (e.g. the Blast, SMAT, Super Smash) are not included.
Exclusions. Super overs are excluded from every total. A match abandoned without a ball bowled has no ball-by-ball file and is not in the dataset, even where a toss took place and official records credit the named players with an appearance. M can therefore sit one or two below a player's official career figure. Match appearances (M) come from the playing XI in each match file, so a match where a player neither batted nor bowled still counts as an appearance. Where M is missing, that player's appearances have not been loaded yet.
"Best" innings and spells are ranked by runs and by wickets then runs conceded; a quiet date here is only quiet within this dataset.
