5 August in cricket
5 August
Dates follow UTC, the same clock as our daily posts.
On this day in 2016, Andre Russell produced a devastating display of power hitting for the Jamaica Tallawahs against Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL, blasting an unbeaten 100 off just 44 balls. In the same fixture, Shakib Al Hasan contributed 3 wickets for 23 runs to round off a memorable outing for the Tallawahs.
The date also belongs to Wayne Parnell, who tore through Ireland's line-up for South Africa in a 2022 T20I, claiming 5 wickets for 30 runs. In LPL action from 2023, Wanindu Hasaranga's superb 3 for 9 lit up B-Love Kandy's clash with Jaffna Kings.
Elsewhere, Kusal Mendis struck 87 off 46 for Dambulla Aura, while Litton Das smashed a brisk 61 off 32 for Bangladesh against West Indies in 2018.

Coverage & definitionsCricsheet ball-by-ball · matches played on this date (UTC) · data through 24 October 2026Show ▾
Source. Ball-by-ball data from Cricsheet. New matches are loaded from Cricsheet twice a day (10:00 and 22:00 UTC), typically a day or two after a match is published there.
Internationals. T20 internationals are included only when both teams are ICC full members. Fixtures against Associate nations (e.g. Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal, USA) are not in the dataset, so international totals for players who faced them are lower than their full career figures. Afghanistan men's internationals are absent for a different reason: Cricsheet has withheld every match involving the Afghanistan men's team since 14 November 2024, so none of them can be loaded. Every full member's totals are lower by the matches they played against Afghanistan, and Afghanistan men's players do not appear at all. Afghanistan women's matches are unaffected.
Leagues. Leagues: IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, SA20, MLC, ILT20, BPL, LPL, WBBL, WPL — full history of each. Domestic T20 competitions outside this list (e.g. the Blast, SMAT, Super Smash) are not included.
Exclusions. Super overs are excluded from every total. A match abandoned without a ball bowled has no ball-by-ball file and is not in the dataset, even where a toss took place and official records credit the named players with an appearance. M can therefore sit one or two below a player's official career figure. Match appearances (M) come from the playing XI in each match file, so a match where a player neither batted nor bowled still counts as an appearance. Where M is missing, that player's appearances have not been loaded yet.
"Best" innings and spells are ranked by runs and by wickets then runs conceded; a quiet date here is only quiet within this dataset.
