2 August in cricket

2 August

Dates follow UTC, the same clock as our daily posts.

On this day in 2022, Suryakumar Yadav lit up the T20I stage with a dazzling 76 off just 44 balls for India against West Indies. His fluent knock headlined a day of fine batting, with West Indies' Kyle Mayers responding gamely, striking 73 from 50 deliveries in the same contest.

The date has produced its share of memorable bowling spells too. In 2025, Jason Holder was near unplayable for West Indies against Pakistan, claiming 4 for 19. Two years earlier, in 2022, New Zealand's Hayley Jensen was miserly and lethal against Sri Lanka, returning figures of 3 for 5.

The Caribbean Premier League also features prominently, with Lendl Simmons' 67 off 44 for the Guyana Amazon Warriors back in 2013 among the standout franchise displays.

Coverage & definitionsCricsheet ball-by-ball · matches played on this date (UTC) · data through 24 October 2026Show ▾

Source. Ball-by-ball data from Cricsheet. New matches are loaded from Cricsheet twice a day (10:00 and 22:00 UTC), typically a day or two after a match is published there.

Internationals. T20 internationals are included only when both teams are ICC full members. Fixtures against Associate nations (e.g. Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal, USA) are not in the dataset, so international totals for players who faced them are lower than their full career figures. Afghanistan men's internationals are absent for a different reason: Cricsheet has withheld every match involving the Afghanistan men's team since 14 November 2024, so none of them can be loaded. Every full member's totals are lower by the matches they played against Afghanistan, and Afghanistan men's players do not appear at all. Afghanistan women's matches are unaffected.

Leagues. Leagues: IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, SA20, MLC, ILT20, BPL, LPL, WBBL, WPL — full history of each. Domestic T20 competitions outside this list (e.g. the Blast, SMAT, Super Smash) are not included.

Exclusions. Super overs are excluded from every total. A match abandoned without a ball bowled has no ball-by-ball file and is not in the dataset, even where a toss took place and official records credit the named players with an appearance. M can therefore sit one or two below a player's official career figure. Match appearances (M) come from the playing XI in each match file, so a match where a player neither batted nor bowled still counts as an appearance. Where M is missing, that player's appearances have not been loaded yet.

"Best" innings and spells are ranked by runs and by wickets then runs conceded; a quiet date here is only quiet within this dataset.
