1 August in cricket

1 August

Dates follow UTC, the same clock as our daily posts.

On this day in 2022, Obed McCoy produced one of the great T20I bowling displays, tearing through India with figures of 6 for 17 for the West Indies. His left-arm burst headlined a memorable day for Caribbean cricket, with Brandon King also chipping in a patient 68 off 52 balls.

The date has also been kind to explosive Lankan-flavoured hitting. In the 2023 LPL, Tim Seifert lit up proceedings with a blistering 74 from just 39 deliveries for Galle Titans against B-Love Kandy, backed by tidy work from Kasun Rajitha (2 for 8) and Shakib Al Hasan (2 for 10).

Rewind to 2013, and Ashley Nurse claimed 4 for 28 for the Barbados Royals against the Antigua Hawksbills in the CPL, adding to a date rich in standout spells.

Coverage & definitionsCricsheet ball-by-ball · matches played on this date (UTC) · data through 24 October 2026Show ▾

Source. Ball-by-ball data from Cricsheet. New matches are loaded from Cricsheet twice a day (10:00 and 22:00 UTC), typically a day or two after a match is published there.

Internationals. T20 internationals are included only when both teams are ICC full members. Fixtures against Associate nations (e.g. Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal, USA) are not in the dataset, so international totals for players who faced them are lower than their full career figures. Afghanistan men's internationals are absent for a different reason: Cricsheet has withheld every match involving the Afghanistan men's team since 14 November 2024, so none of them can be loaded. Every full member's totals are lower by the matches they played against Afghanistan, and Afghanistan men's players do not appear at all. Afghanistan women's matches are unaffected.

Leagues. Leagues: IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, SA20, MLC, ILT20, BPL, LPL, WBBL, WPL — full history of each. Domestic T20 competitions outside this list (e.g. the Blast, SMAT, Super Smash) are not included.

Exclusions. Super overs are excluded from every total. A match abandoned without a ball bowled has no ball-by-ball file and is not in the dataset, even where a toss took place and official records credit the named players with an appearance. M can therefore sit one or two below a player's official career figure. Match appearances (M) come from the playing XI in each match file, so a match where a player neither batted nor bowled still counts as an appearance. Where M is missing, that player's appearances have not been loaded yet.

"Best" innings and spells are ranked by runs and by wickets then runs conceded; a quiet date here is only quiet within this dataset.
