3 August in cricket

3 August

Dates follow UTC, the same clock as our daily posts.

On this day in 2013, Shakib Al Hasan produced one of the most remarkable bowling displays in T20 history, taking 6 wickets while conceding just 6 runs for the Barbados Royals against the Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL. It remains a jaw-dropping benchmark for miserly, match-shaping spin.

Fittingly, that same fixture saw Fidel Edwards fire back for the Knight Riders, claiming 5 wickets for 22 to make it a bowlers' day to remember in Caribbean cricket.

The bat had its say a year later, as Shoaib Malik smashed 81 off just 43 balls for the Barbados Royals against the Jamaica Tallawahs in 2014. On the same date in 2022, Ireland's Lorcan Tucker lit up a T20I against South Africa with 78 from 38 deliveries.

Coverage & definitionsCricsheet ball-by-ball · matches played on this date (UTC) · data through 24 October 2026Show ▾

Source. Ball-by-ball data from Cricsheet. New matches are loaded from Cricsheet twice a day (10:00 and 22:00 UTC), typically a day or two after a match is published there.

Internationals. T20 internationals are included only when both teams are ICC full members. Fixtures against Associate nations (e.g. Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal, USA) are not in the dataset, so international totals for players who faced them are lower than their full career figures. Afghanistan men's internationals are absent for a different reason: Cricsheet has withheld every match involving the Afghanistan men's team since 14 November 2024, so none of them can be loaded. Every full member's totals are lower by the matches they played against Afghanistan, and Afghanistan men's players do not appear at all. Afghanistan women's matches are unaffected.

Leagues. Leagues: IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, SA20, MLC, ILT20, BPL, LPL, WBBL, WPL — full history of each. Domestic T20 competitions outside this list (e.g. the Blast, SMAT, Super Smash) are not included.

Exclusions. Super overs are excluded from every total. A match abandoned without a ball bowled has no ball-by-ball file and is not in the dataset, even where a toss took place and official records credit the named players with an appearance. M can therefore sit one or two below a player's official career figure. Match appearances (M) come from the playing XI in each match file, so a match where a player neither batted nor bowled still counts as an appearance. Where M is missing, that player's appearances have not been loaded yet.

"Best" innings and spells are ranked by runs and by wickets then runs conceded; a quiet date here is only quiet within this dataset.
