31 July in cricket

31 July

Dates follow UTC, the same clock as our daily posts.

On this day in 2022, South Africa produced a commanding all-round display against England, with Reeza Hendricks and Tabraiz Shamsi both starring. Hendricks top-scored with 70 off 50 balls, while Shamsi tore through the England line-up with a superb 5 for 24, combining top-order runs and match-winning spin on the same date.

The occasion also belongs to Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, whose remarkable 5 for 20 for Bangladesh against Zimbabwe in 2022 stands as the finest bowling figures listed for this day.

Elsewhere in 2022, Smriti Mandhana lit up an India versus Pakistan clash with 63 off 42. From the CPL archives, Andre Fletcher's 70 and Johnson Charles' 64 powered St Lucia Zouks, while Dwayne Bravo's 4 for 13 in 2016 remains a standout spell.

Coverage & definitionsCricsheet ball-by-ball · matches played on this date (UTC) · data through 24 October 2026Show ▾

Source. Ball-by-ball data from Cricsheet. New matches are loaded from Cricsheet twice a day (10:00 and 22:00 UTC), typically a day or two after a match is published there.

Internationals. T20 internationals are included only when both teams are ICC full members. Fixtures against Associate nations (e.g. Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal, USA) are not in the dataset, so international totals for players who faced them are lower than their full career figures. Afghanistan men's internationals are absent for a different reason: Cricsheet has withheld every match involving the Afghanistan men's team since 14 November 2024, so none of them can be loaded. Every full member's totals are lower by the matches they played against Afghanistan, and Afghanistan men's players do not appear at all. Afghanistan women's matches are unaffected.

Leagues. Leagues: IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, SA20, MLC, ILT20, BPL, LPL, WBBL, WPL — full history of each. Domestic T20 competitions outside this list (e.g. the Blast, SMAT, Super Smash) are not included.

Exclusions. Super overs are excluded from every total. A match abandoned without a ball bowled has no ball-by-ball file and is not in the dataset, even where a toss took place and official records credit the named players with an appearance. M can therefore sit one or two below a player's official career figure. Match appearances (M) come from the playing XI in each match file, so a match where a player neither batted nor bowled still counts as an appearance. Where M is missing, that player's appearances have not been loaded yet.

"Best" innings and spells are ranked by runs and by wickets then runs conceded; a quiet date here is only quiet within this dataset.
