8 July in cricket
8 July
Dates follow UTC, the same clock as our daily posts.
On this day in 2018, Rohit Sharma lit up the T20I stage with a superb century for India against England, blazing 100 off just 56 balls. His hundred was backed by all-round intent, with Hardik Pandya striking four times for 38 as India kept England in check. Jason Roy provided England's spark with a rapid 67 from 31 deliveries.
The same date carries plenty more history. Also in 2018, Fakhar Zaman thumped 91 off 46 for Pakistan against Australia, while D'Arcy Short answered with 76 off 53. In 2024, Faf du Plessis reached 100 off 58 for Texas Super Kings against Washington Freedom in the MLC.
In women's cricket, Hayley Matthews starred in 2023, claiming 4 for 14 against Ireland.

Coverage & definitionsCricsheet ball-by-ball · matches played on this date (UTC) · data through 24 October 2026Show ▾
Source. Ball-by-ball data from Cricsheet. New matches are loaded from Cricsheet twice a day (10:00 and 22:00 UTC), typically a day or two after a match is published there.
Internationals. T20 internationals are included only when both teams are ICC full members. Fixtures against Associate nations (e.g. Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal, USA) are not in the dataset, so international totals for players who faced them are lower than their full career figures. Afghanistan men's internationals are absent for a different reason: Cricsheet has withheld every match involving the Afghanistan men's team since 14 November 2024, so none of them can be loaded. Every full member's totals are lower by the matches they played against Afghanistan, and Afghanistan men's players do not appear at all. Afghanistan women's matches are unaffected.
Leagues. Leagues: IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, SA20, MLC, ILT20, BPL, LPL, WBBL, WPL — full history of each. Domestic T20 competitions outside this list (e.g. the Blast, SMAT, Super Smash) are not included.
Exclusions. Super overs are excluded from every total. A match abandoned without a ball bowled has no ball-by-ball file and is not in the dataset, even where a toss took place and official records credit the named players with an appearance. M can therefore sit one or two below a player's official career figure. Match appearances (M) come from the playing XI in each match file, so a match where a player neither batted nor bowled still counts as an appearance. Where M is missing, that player's appearances have not been loaded yet.
"Best" innings and spells are ranked by runs and by wickets then runs conceded; a quiet date here is only quiet within this dataset.
