9 October
Dates follow UTC, the same clock as our daily posts.
On This Day in T20 cricket, Alex Hales lit up an England-Australia clash in 2022 with a blazing 84 off just 51 balls, the standout knock of the date. David Warner replied for Australia with 73 from 44, while Nathan Ellis chipped in with 3 for 20, making it a memorable all-round contest between the old rivals.
The date also belongs to Imran Tahir, whose remarkable 5 for 23 against Zimbabwe in 2018 remains the finest bowling figures recorded on this day.
Elsewhere, Nitish Kumar Reddy's explosive 74 off 34 against Bangladesh in 2024 caught the eye, as did Oshada Fernando's 78 and Devon Conway's 70. India's spinners shone too, with Asha Sobhana and Arundhati Reddy each claiming three wickets against Sri Lanka in 2024.
