21 August in cricket
21 August
Dates follow UTC, the same clock as our daily posts.
On This Day in T20 cricket, the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots opening pair lit up the CPL in 2017. Chris Gayle rolled back the years with a commanding 71 off 55 balls against the Jamaica Tallawahs, while partner Evin Lewis was even more explosive, blazing 69 from just 39 deliveries. The Patriots' Tabraiz Shamsi chipped in with 3 for 35 in the same contest.
The date has also produced memorable bowling displays for the Patriots. In 2025, Jason Holder delivered a superb spell of 4 for 14 against the Barbados Royals. Back in 2018, Sheldon Cottrell claimed 3 for 14 against the St Lucia Stars. Elsewhere, Ireland's Kim Garth grabbed 3 for 17 against Australia in a 2015 T20I.

Coverage & definitionsCricsheet ball-by-ball · matches played on this date (UTC) · data through 24 October 2026Show ▾
Source. Ball-by-ball data from Cricsheet. New matches are loaded from Cricsheet twice a day (10:00 and 22:00 UTC), typically a day or two after a match is published there.
Internationals. T20 internationals are included only when both teams are ICC full members. Fixtures against Associate nations (e.g. Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal, USA) are not in the dataset, so international totals for players who faced them are lower than their full career figures. Afghanistan men's internationals are absent for a different reason: Cricsheet has withheld every match involving the Afghanistan men's team since 14 November 2024, so none of them can be loaded. Every full member's totals are lower by the matches they played against Afghanistan, and Afghanistan men's players do not appear at all. Afghanistan women's matches are unaffected.
Leagues. Leagues: IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, SA20, MLC, ILT20, BPL, LPL, WBBL, WPL — full history of each. Domestic T20 competitions outside this list (e.g. the Blast, SMAT, Super Smash) are not included.
Exclusions. Super overs are excluded from every total. A match abandoned without a ball bowled has no ball-by-ball file and is not in the dataset, even where a toss took place and official records credit the named players with an appearance. M can therefore sit one or two below a player's official career figure. Match appearances (M) come from the playing XI in each match file, so a match where a player neither batted nor bowled still counts as an appearance. Where M is missing, that player's appearances have not been loaded yet.
"Best" innings and spells are ranked by runs and by wickets then runs conceded; a quiet date here is only quiet within this dataset.
