27 July in cricket

27 July

Dates follow UTC, the same clock as our daily posts.

On This Day in 2022, Jonny Bairstow lit up the England–South Africa T20I with a blistering 90 off just 53 balls, a knock full of intent that underlined his rich form that summer. Yet the day belonged as much to the bowlers, with Lungi Ngidi answering back for South Africa, claiming a superb 5 for 39 to keep his side in the contest.

The same fixture also produced fireworks from Tristan Stubbs, who smashed 72 from only 28 deliveries in a remarkable cameo for South Africa.

Years later on this date, Pathum Nissanka's 79 off 48 for Sri Lanka against India in 2024 caught the eye, while India's Riyan Parag returned exceptional figures of 3 for 5, and Matheesha Pathirana grabbed 4 for 40.

Coverage & definitionsCricsheet ball-by-ball · matches played on this date (UTC) · data through 24 October 2026Show ▾

Source. Ball-by-ball data from Cricsheet. New matches are loaded from Cricsheet twice a day (10:00 and 22:00 UTC), typically a day or two after a match is published there.

Internationals. T20 internationals are included only when both teams are ICC full members. Fixtures against Associate nations (e.g. Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal, USA) are not in the dataset, so international totals for players who faced them are lower than their full career figures. Afghanistan men's internationals are absent for a different reason: Cricsheet has withheld every match involving the Afghanistan men's team since 14 November 2024, so none of them can be loaded. Every full member's totals are lower by the matches they played against Afghanistan, and Afghanistan men's players do not appear at all. Afghanistan women's matches are unaffected.

Leagues. Leagues: IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, SA20, MLC, ILT20, BPL, LPL, WBBL, WPL — full history of each. Domestic T20 competitions outside this list (e.g. the Blast, SMAT, Super Smash) are not included.

Exclusions. Super overs are excluded from every total. A match abandoned without a ball bowled has no ball-by-ball file and is not in the dataset, even where a toss took place and official records credit the named players with an appearance. M can therefore sit one or two below a player's official career figure. Match appearances (M) come from the playing XI in each match file, so a match where a player neither batted nor bowled still counts as an appearance. Where M is missing, that player's appearances have not been loaded yet.

"Best" innings and spells are ranked by runs and by wickets then runs conceded; a quiet date here is only quiet within this dataset.
