20 July in cricket

20 July

Dates follow UTC, the same clock as our daily posts.

On This Day in 2024, Kusal Mendis lit up the Lanka Premier League with a scintillating century for Jaffna Kings against Kandy Falcons. Mendis smashed 105 off just 54 balls, and his knock was complemented perfectly by Fabian Allen, whose four wickets for 24 runs helped make it a memorable day for the Kings.

The date has long been kind to explosive batting. Back in 2016, Chadwick Walton struck 97 off 54 balls for Jamaica Tallawahs against Barbados Royals in the CPL, with Dale Steyn claiming four for 27 in the same fixture.

More recently in 2024's MLC, Finn Allen blazed 77 off just 30 deliveries for San Francisco Unicorns against Seattle Orcas, while Hasan Khan returned remarkable figures of three wickets for only five runs.

Coverage & definitionsCricsheet ball-by-ball · matches played on this date (UTC) · data through 24 October 2026Show ▾

Source. Ball-by-ball data from Cricsheet. New matches are loaded from Cricsheet twice a day (10:00 and 22:00 UTC), typically a day or two after a match is published there.

Internationals. T20 internationals are included only when both teams are ICC full members. Fixtures against Associate nations (e.g. Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal, USA) are not in the dataset, so international totals for players who faced them are lower than their full career figures. Afghanistan men's internationals are absent for a different reason: Cricsheet has withheld every match involving the Afghanistan men's team since 14 November 2024, so none of them can be loaded. Every full member's totals are lower by the matches they played against Afghanistan, and Afghanistan men's players do not appear at all. Afghanistan women's matches are unaffected.

Leagues. Leagues: IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, SA20, MLC, ILT20, BPL, LPL, WBBL, WPL — full history of each. Domestic T20 competitions outside this list (e.g. the Blast, SMAT, Super Smash) are not included.

Exclusions. Super overs are excluded from every total. A match abandoned without a ball bowled has no ball-by-ball file and is not in the dataset, even where a toss took place and official records credit the named players with an appearance. M can therefore sit one or two below a player's official career figure. Match appearances (M) come from the playing XI in each match file, so a match where a player neither batted nor bowled still counts as an appearance. Where M is missing, that player's appearances have not been loaded yet.

"Best" innings and spells are ranked by runs and by wickets then runs conceded; a quiet date here is only quiet within this dataset.
