18 July in cricket
18 July
Dates follow UTC, the same clock as our daily posts.
On this day in 2012, Elias Sunny produced one of the great spells of spin bowling in T20 internationals, ripping through Ireland with figures of five wickets for just 13 runs for Bangladesh. It remains a benchmark of controlled, economical destruction.
The date has also delivered plenty of batting fireworks. In 2023, Matthew Wade lit up Major League Cricket with a blistering 78 from 41 balls for the San Francisco Unicorns against the Los Angeles Knight Riders.
Two years later in 2022, New Zealand dismantled Ireland with both bat and ball, Glenn Phillips striking 69 from 52 while Lockie Ferguson claimed four wickets for 14. The Lanka Premier League has added its own flavour, with Sadeera Samarawickrama, Tim Seifert and Dwaine Pretorius all shining.

Coverage & definitionsCricsheet ball-by-ball · matches played on this date (UTC) · data through 24 October 2026Show ▾
Source. Ball-by-ball data from Cricsheet. New matches are loaded from Cricsheet twice a day (10:00 and 22:00 UTC), typically a day or two after a match is published there.
Internationals. T20 internationals are included only when both teams are ICC full members. Fixtures against Associate nations (e.g. Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal, USA) are not in the dataset, so international totals for players who faced them are lower than their full career figures. Afghanistan men's internationals are absent for a different reason: Cricsheet has withheld every match involving the Afghanistan men's team since 14 November 2024, so none of them can be loaded. Every full member's totals are lower by the matches they played against Afghanistan, and Afghanistan men's players do not appear at all. Afghanistan women's matches are unaffected.
Leagues. Leagues: IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, SA20, MLC, ILT20, BPL, LPL, WBBL, WPL — full history of each. Domestic T20 competitions outside this list (e.g. the Blast, SMAT, Super Smash) are not included.
Exclusions. Super overs are excluded from every total. A match abandoned without a ball bowled has no ball-by-ball file and is not in the dataset, even where a toss took place and official records credit the named players with an appearance. M can therefore sit one or two below a player's official career figure. Match appearances (M) come from the playing XI in each match file, so a match where a player neither batted nor bowled still counts as an appearance. Where M is missing, that player's appearances have not been loaded yet.
"Best" innings and spells are ranked by runs and by wickets then runs conceded; a quiet date here is only quiet within this dataset.
