23 June in cricket

23 June

Dates follow UTC, the same clock as our daily posts.

On this day in 2025, Matthew Short produced a blistering display for the San Francisco Unicorns against MI New York in Major League Cricket, smashing 91 from just 43 deliveries. It was a knock of real authority, the standout batting performance recorded on June 23 across T20 history.

The same MLC clash saw Quinton de Kock answer back for MI New York with 70 off 46 balls, a fine effort in his own right against the Unicorns.

June 23 also belongs to the women's game. Back in 2018, Sophie Ecclestone was at her miserly best for England against New Zealand, claiming 4 wickets for just 18 runs. That same year, Tammy Beaumont struck 71 off 59 against South Africa, while Lizelle Lee hit 68 from 37.

Coverage & definitionsCricsheet ball-by-ball · matches played on this date (UTC) · data through 24 October 2026Show ▾

Source. Ball-by-ball data from Cricsheet. New matches are loaded from Cricsheet twice a day (10:00 and 22:00 UTC), typically a day or two after a match is published there.

Internationals. T20 internationals are included only when both teams are ICC full members. Fixtures against Associate nations (e.g. Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal, USA) are not in the dataset, so international totals for players who faced them are lower than their full career figures. Afghanistan men's internationals are absent for a different reason: Cricsheet has withheld every match involving the Afghanistan men's team since 14 November 2024, so none of them can be loaded. Every full member's totals are lower by the matches they played against Afghanistan, and Afghanistan men's players do not appear at all. Afghanistan women's matches are unaffected.

Leagues. Leagues: IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, SA20, MLC, ILT20, BPL, LPL, WBBL, WPL — full history of each. Domestic T20 competitions outside this list (e.g. the Blast, SMAT, Super Smash) are not included.

Exclusions. Super overs are excluded from every total. A match abandoned without a ball bowled has no ball-by-ball file and is not in the dataset, even where a toss took place and official records credit the named players with an appearance. M can therefore sit one or two below a player's official career figure. Match appearances (M) come from the playing XI in each match file, so a match where a player neither batted nor bowled still counts as an appearance. Where M is missing, that player's appearances have not been loaded yet.

"Best" innings and spells are ranked by runs and by wickets then runs conceded; a quiet date here is only quiet within this dataset.
